This is absolutely the key to success in any field or niche. Without being organized you are just beating against the wind and going nowhere fast, or at all. One of the main keys to social network marketingis organization. So thanks for making this plain and visual.

Thanks for the video. I was already using Google Reader for all of my rss feeds, but my gmail was getting really out of control. Learning how to apply those filters will save me tons of time in the future, so I really appreciate that tip!

Brilliant!

I have been using Gmail filters and Google Reader lately and it really helps.

I’ve been using Gmail ever since it came out, but it’s only this time that I learned on setting up the message filters and RSS feeds. Thank you Brian, and I’m always grateful for all these things that you share for everyone to learn.

That was excellent. I knew about the labels, or folders, but not the RSS feeds. Thanks for sharing this information in such a succinct and straightforward manner.

Another great snippet of education. I have been using google reader for quite a while but only recently the penny dropped. I realised how powerful all this is. Behind the scenes, Google applies user data (blog posts, CTR, rss feeds and what we share), will make it much easier for you to have a targeted audience that understands what you have to offer.

From reading the comments it looks like people generally have been aware of some of this, it’s good to see most people have also learned something new.

In my case, I’ve known but have not fully used this in the past. I learned the hard way to take an extra 60 seconds to set it up properly now instead of wasting several dozen hours of your life later!

These are the kind of time saving tips that I’m teaching my employees so I don’t have to pay for wasted time.

More Gmail tips :

- check out “Labs” in the settings where you can add very useful features such as quick links, superstars, custom labels colors, custom keyboard shortcuts, go to label keyboard shortcut, Google Calendar gadget, and lots more…

- receive your emails from other accounts into your Gmail inbox (in settings / accounts). Manage many accounts using the excellent Gmail interface…

- you can add gadgets to your Gmail page (via settings / gadgets). I suggest Remember the Milk for tasks management (see their awesome website… free service and top-notch social web integration… http://www.rememberthemilk.com/)

- if you don’t like the white/default color theme, check out the available themes… currently using Ninja and loving it…

- Advanced tip : install Greasemonkey and check out the available scripts at userscripts…

Questions are welcome…

Organization makes the apparently impossible possible…

Best wishes,
Chris

One more :

When creating a filter, you have the option to add stars.
This can be very useful regrouping emails from various sources (i.e. labels) into one place and use the “starred” link as a second inbox…

For instance, I have filters for all of my 60-or-so Ning networks. They are all set to “skip the inbox” and “star it” so they go directly into the “starred” inbox which I use as my Ning follow-up inbox…

Hope it helps !

Blessings,
Chris

Absolutely! I have been using GMail since its early days, and have found the filter and organization tools to be absolutely necessary. Each domain I buy for my business comes with a free e-mail account, but I always just forward that address to my GMail account (or set-up Google Apps for Domains) because I refuse to part with the filters, organizing, tools, and more that GMail offers. Not to mention the storage capacity! Google seems to know what people really need with their email. Oh, and I recommend the “Multiple Inboxes” plug-in from Google Labs. It makes the filters/labels feature even more convenient!

Thanks Brian. A great resource to those new to gmail or those who just hadn’t figured out the filters. For me the filters are a must and I’ve gotten in the habit of using them for each new site.

This video is very clear and concise. Good info presented well.

BUT… unless you know something I don’t Brian – the e mails still all sit in the Inbox ; sure they can be accessed via the filters but you still have an extremely loaded Inbox. I would love ot know how to apply the filters so they go and live in folders and do not even appear in my Inbox like what they do (says she in bad grammar) in Outlook and Hotmail.

I didn’t realize gmail had filters! Thanks for the info. I have rules in outlook to do the same thing, but didn’t realize i could do it in gmail!

Question though: Why even get notification emails from Twitter for example? I have them turned off as I didn’t see a reason to them (and they cluttered up my inbox which now I can solve with filters of course).
